Beautiful Garage Floor Coating That's DIY Easy!

Armor Chip and Armor Granite garage floor epoxy kits are an easy, affordable way to achieve a professional-looking high gloss floor finish. Suitable for light vehicles up to heavy forklift traffic in any weather conditions!

They're all-inclusive and include our proprietary military-grade epoxy, industrial-grade urethane-based epoxy clear topcoat (with a best in class Military Grade option available), 8-20 lbs of multi-color flakes, spike soles, application squeegee, epoxy rated rollers, mixers, non-slip additive that gets mixed into the topcoat, easy-to-follow detailed instructions, unlimited phone and email support, and FREE SHIPPING!

These are not water-based or high solids thin build type epoxies; those types of epoxy coatings should only be considered as primers and never as your primary floor coating! Armor Chip & Armor Granite are industrial strength epoxy flooring systems packaged with clear instructions that anyone can apply to achieve beautiful, long-lasting results, even first time users.

If you prefer not to install it yourself, simply have your local painter or handyman do it for you! We're happy to work with your handyman or painter if it's their first time. It's very straight forward and a 5 minute conversation is all it takes.

Our epoxy flooring is impervious to vehicle fluids, road salts, hot tires, mold, mildew, and yellowing, heavy rolling tools and equipment. All our epoxy floor coatings are engineered to outlast and outshine the competition! Our Military Grade Topcoat option has an industry-best 4 mg abrasion loss rating (Durability Rating where the lower the number, the better). This means your floor can withstand any size vehicle or type of tire. Floor jacks, jack stands, and rolling 1000lb tool chests have no effect on the finish! Compare this to the competition's durability ratings, if they even have one, and you'll see theirs are not even close meaning their coating will wear off much sooner than you ever thought.

Armor Chip garage floor epoxy is 20 Mils thick, with 8lbs of color chips (the most of any standard garage epoxy kit), two coats of clear urethane epoxy topcoat. Armor Granite garage floor epoxy is 25 mils thick, comes with 20 lbs of chips for a realistic granite look, spiked soles, and four coats of clear urethane fortified epoxy topcoat.

ArmorGarage epoxy floor coatings cannot be compared to standard off-the-shelf type epoxies that routinely fail prematurely.

The key to longevity for epoxy garage floor paint is prepping your floor correctly and using the highest quality epoxy and topcoat you can buy. It's always cheaper in the long run!

For floors larger than our standard-sized kits, see our ADD ON HALF KITS - Armor Chip Half Kit & Armor Granite Half Kit for slightly larger floors than our standard kit coverage.

Getting an epoxy floor coating like those in our customer photos is one part of the job. Having it last and look good for 15-20 years is the other part. See the image of John and Eric's floor below for proof!

"Hey Jim, Eric Pfieffer here from Miami. Thought you would find this picture interesting! You sold me the Armor Chip garage flooring kit (floor on the right) with the standard topcoat and my friend John did his floor with an epoxy kit from the local big box store to save some money (floor on the left). Both floors looked similar, but that didn't last more than a year, and the difference now is amazing! My floor still looks good and cleans up real easy, but it's getting to the point where it could use a freshening. I'm going to use the Military Topcoat to give it that new look again after a light sanding to rough it up. John was told he needs to do a complete diamond grind on his spot! I'm figuring the military topcoat will give me a finish I'll never have to redo, judging by how long the standard topcoat lasted, which is now going on over 10 years. Speak to you soon (so will John!) and thanks for a fantastic product!"
Comparison of ArmorGarage Garage Flooring Epoxy vs Standard Epoxy

We're not sure what better proof you could ask for than the picture and testimonial above that ArmorGarage epoxy floors are superior. Our epoxy and chips remain unscathed while our standard clear topcoat shows some cosmetic signs of wear from twisting tires in a tight space after 10 years. All Eric needs to do to bring his floor back to new is a light sanding and roll on a coat of the military grade clear topcoat for another 15-20 years of service. John has to do a complete diamond grind plus difficult oil stain removals after having to live with an ugly and a completely failed floor after barely a year.

We receive calls from customers like John every day. Unlike redoing a room with a gallon of relatively inexpensive semi gloss, redoing your floor is not as easy, especially the part where you have to take everything out of your garage.

Once you put down a coating that fails, it's pretty much a nightmare depending on how bad a product you've used. We're here to help you avoid that problem with our products and the knowledge we've gained through years of experience. We strongly recommend you read the actual product pages for all the information on each of the Tabs.

The following is exactly what we try our best to help you avoid. Thinking you're putting down a great heavy-duty epoxy product that really wasn't. Keep in mind when you watch the video below that the non-ArmorGarage part has no vehicle traffic on it! If all you do is watch this video you'll get what we try our best to convey to you. Most people fall prey to marketing gimmicks and incomplete information. Hopefully, this will help you avoid having to deal with an epoxy floor failure.

Low priced epoxy kits rarely yield their advertised coverage and require multiple kit purchases to properly hide the concrete, and last only a fraction as long as an ArmorGarage floor. Are you really saving money if the bargain epoxy you bought doesn't fully hide the concrete and requires you to buy more material and do additional coats?

Some kits come with as little as 1 or 2 lbs of color chips that give your floor the freckle effect rather than a finish that looks like it was professionally done. Even the worst looking floors come out looking like a showroom finish with our garage floor epoxy. As you can see in the images below this floor was done by Alan in Denver. His floor was a mess when he started with road salt damage and oil stains and even though he never did anything like this before, his floor turned out beautifully. He left the control joints unfilled as we always recommend, they add a sort of dimension to the floor and makes it look like large slabs of granite. He used medium gray with military topcoat with black, white and primary blue flake.. Here are a couple of great examples:

Before you buy any garage epoxy floor coating, be sure to read the How To Epoxy Paint Your Floor page on what and what not to do so you end up with a beautiful floor that lasts! We recommend using a primer even though it's not required because our epoxies are self priming, it's always a good idea to prime your floor as you would if you were painting your house, car or other porous surfaces. This ensures the highest level of adhesion, increases coverage of the epoxy coating by up to 25%, and increases the thickness of your floor to a whopping 25-30 mils thick.

Remember the best prepped floor is of no value if an inferior epoxy paint coating is applied to it, and the best epoxy paint coating is of no value if applied to a poorly prepped floor!

  • FAQ's

Do I have to etch new concrete?

Yes, in fact you need to etch it twice to make sure you burn out all the curing residues and then neutralize with the provided neutralizing powder. It's very important to follow this procedure to get permanent adhesion. You can diamond grind the floor with the Floor Prep Machine you can rent from Home depot which eliminates the need to acid etch. Just be sure all the dust is off the floor before you begin coating. We recommend getting the Vac attachment to make cleanup easier.

I see WB or WBU in some other product descriptions, what does that mean?

It means they are water based. It means that up to 50% or more of the product you are paying for is water. Water based epoxies are much thinner since 50% or more of the product you roll onto the floor evaporates away as it dries. Which is the root cause of all sorts of problems with your floor in a short amount of time. Our epoxy doesn't air dry it cures by a thermal chemical process and thus you get 100% of whatever you apply to your floor. So when you see a low price it's usually due to being water based or just high solids that are lower in quality.

Can I do my floor in sections?

Yes, it's very easy to do you floor in sections if you can't move all your stuff out at once. Put down a good duct tape line for the first section. If using a primer apply primer up to tape line if not priming apply epoxy up to tape line. If applying epoxy over primer end epoxy about 12 inches before tape line and end color flakes 12 inches before edge of epoxy. Apply topcoat up to 12 inches before edge of epoxy. When ready to do the second section remove tape. Lightly sand the 12" inch strips of the primer(if using), epoxy and topcoat to rough up. Then lightly overlap each layer of sanded coating with the new section of coating. It will all blend in as if you did it in one shot.

    Should I use a primer?

While normally not required we always recommend using a primer. Our primer is actually a high performance epoxy that we call a primer only because it goes down first. It outperforms 95% of all other actual epoxy coatings. Using a primer will provide extra adhesion, strengthen older concrete and extend the coverage of the epoxy coating layer by up to 25% which can come in handy if your floor size is close to or slightly over the stated kit coverage. Use a primer in lieu of purchasing the Add On Half Kit, it makes for a better job. Also see are latest primer addition, our No Prep instant Primer. This remarkable primer applies to any surface without prep and allows you to coat over it with any ArmorGarage epoxy coating product instantly. Saves prep time, dry time and money by not having to grind or etch. Now you can prime and epoxy in one day by using this game changing product.

    Is ArmorGarage Epoxy 100% Solids?

Yes it is not only 100% solids by weight and volume which some companies advertise their epoxy as 100% solids when it's only by weight and not volume. This is not a true 100% solids epoxy. It's also not a Military Grade solids epoxy like ArmorGarage epoxy. Our Military Grade 100% solids epoxy means it's manufactured from the best solids materials made. There's a huge difference between standard solids epoxy and military grade epoxy. That's why our epoxy floors last the longest and stay looking brand new the longest!

How hard is it to apply and epoxy floor coating in my garage?

Not hard at all in fact the hardest part of the job is cleaning out all your stuff. The best time to do your garage floor in a new house is right before you move in! All our kits are designed and geared so that first time users can apply the epoxy coatings and get professional looking results every time. All the images on our website our from customers who never applied an epoxy floor coating of any kind.

I can't decide on the right color what do I do?

We have 12 preselected epoxy and flake color combinations to make it easy for to make your choice. However many times customers like to match certain color schemes. In this case the first step is to decide what the base color of the floor should be. This way you can select any of the standard kits with that base color. Then open the Chip Color Chart located on the Color Chart Tab and click on the link for the Chip Color Chart. Select up to five colors and list them in the custom order note box on the product page. You can also leave us a note in the comment box on the checkout page to keep them separate. This way you can play and experiment with each color and the ratios of each color. Plus if you're not happy with you color selections ArmorGarage has a color satisfaction guarantee and we'll replace your color flakes with a new selection of your choice at no charge! You can also call us and one of our expert reps can guide you on what colors go together and which don't. We've done every color scheme you can imagine so we know what will make you happy or not.

How long are your floors guaranteed for?

ArmorGarage is the only company that has a 5 year across the board guarantee including against wear! No other company guarantees their product against wear or dulling. Our garage epoxy floors routinely last 15-20 years or more before needed a simple recoat of the clear topcoat. Please note there is no such thing as a lifetime coating and therefore any such guarantee is not a real guarantee!

How long before I can park my car back on the floor?

After applying the topcoat allow it to dry 5-8 hrs depending on temperature and humidity. Once the topcoat is dry and hard to the touch and leaves no fingerprints in it, you can walk on it and put all your stuff back inside the garage. We would leave the car off it for 2-3 days.

Can I epoxy coat my floor if it's raining?

Yes, if it's raining lightly and water will not splash inside the garage onto the wet epoxy. We recommend that if there's a chance of heavier rain not to start your project, very high humidity can affect the curing of your epoxy and topcoat as would water splashing onto your floor.

    Is Garage Floor Epoxy slippery?

All our epoxy floor kits come with nonslip additive that is mixed into the final clear coat to provide a slip resistant finish.

Can I fill in the expansion-contraction saw cuts that were installed in my slab?

Yes you can but we don't recommend it unless your floor is at least 5 years or older. If you fill them in too soon you run the risk of having a crack show up in your brand new high gloss epoxy floor. We always leave the control joints unfilled once you've epoxied the floor the control joints add dimension to the floor making them look like giant slabs of porcelain or granite if you use color flakes.

How much does garage floor epoxy cost?

For franchise company and contractor installed floors the average costs are between $4.50-7.00 per square foot. For DIY floors you can get it done for $1.09 - $1.90 per square foot and using a better quality product. It pays to do it yourself, it's very easy and straight forward to do. You can get epoxy floor kits for about .25 cents per sf but that would be for a product that will last only a couple of years. If you're not planning on using the floor long term than that would be they way to go. Otherwise you're better off doing nothing and leaving the floor bare rather than using a water based or only a high solid epoxy that will make the floor look worse in a few years.

Why are ArmorGarage garage epoxy floors better?

ArmorGarage garage floor epoxy is not water based, they are 100% pure military grade epoxies made with 100% made in America materials. The reason your floor will keep you smiling for the next 20 years is because they are 10 times thicker and have a much harder finish. Our military grade topcoat has an industry low abrasion loss rating of only 4mgs(the lower the number the better) as opposed to other typical epoxy coating systems that have ratings of 30 mgs and higher. That's a tremendous difference. Our coatings are hot tire proof, mold & mildew proof, road salt proof, waterproof and chemical and acid proof. In short there is no comparison to our epoxy coatings with any other brand.

How long does it take to install your epoxy flooring?

The actual amount of labor hours is about 6-8 hours total. In total time from start to finish is 2 or 3 days due to dry times in between coats and letting the floor dry if you acid etch it. Grinding will save you a day or two in drying time. Once you apply the final topcoat you can put all your stuff back on the floor in about 5-6 hours and park your car on it in 2-3 days.

Important things to know about Garage Flooring Epoxy

The most important things you need to know are that you have to have an epoxy finish that has a polyurethane topcoat with a minimum of a 20mg abrasion loss rating. 20mg is for your average garage owner that pulls their cars in and out and has the standard items you find in most garages.

For garages that have vehicles with nonstandard tires such as off road tires, racing tires, golf carts, tractors or trailers then you need a topcoat with 10mg or lower abrasion rating. Same goes for garages that are used as workshops with lots of rolling items such as jacks, tool chests or machinery.

We offer a military grade topcoat with a 4mg loss rating. this offers you a super hard finish that can handle anything you put in your garage or anything you do on your garage floor. Coatings with ratings higher than 20mgs offer very little wear protection.

Every time you drive your car on it, every time you walk on it, every time you roll something on it abrasion occurs. This abrasion can wear through low quality epoxies and topcoats very very quickly! So even though your epoxy is still stuck to your floor, you're stuck with a poor looking floor that is not covered under any guarantee!

Second most important thing is preparation. If you are not diamond grinding or renting the Floor Prep Machine from Home Depot you must acid etch the floor. In fact if your floor is very dirty or is new concrete or was power troweled you need to do two etchings. A power washing is also recommended.

We get asked about doing full coverage of color flakes. This is not a good idea if you're not a professional. It's very difficult to get that amount of flakes to lay evenly and uniformly. More often then not the floor will look lumpy and unbalanced color wise. You need to have an extra thick epoxy to handle 75- 100lbs of chips otherwise you will have delamination issues in the future. We know, we've seen it happen many times from customers who were not aware how difficult it was to do and did not use the right epoxy. Plus you need double the topcoat to fill in all the nooks and crannies. If you like the heavy flake look use our Armor Granite kit it gives you close to 90-95% coverage and always looks perfect.
