For commercial kitchens and food prep areas, there is only one acceptable approach β a flooring system engineered from the ground up to handle the extreme conditions these environments produce. Our commercial kitchen epoxy consists of a high-performance primer that surpasses the quality of many competitors' complete systems, topped with an extra-thick, chemically hardened epoxy layer that cures harder than construction hard hats.
This two-layer system delivers the adhesion strength, impact resistance, chemical resistance, and abrasion ratings needed to survive long-term in commercial food service β where dropped pots, heavy mixer carts, hot oil splashes and daily caustic washdowns are the norm, not the exception.
First-time applicators routinely achieve contractor-grade results using our complete turnkey systems. Most images on our website were completed by customers who had never done anything like this before.
Why Most Kitchen Epoxies Fail
Commercial kitchens and food prep areas demand flooring with high adhesion ratings, high hardness ratings, high impact resistance, and very low abrasion loss. These are the four critical factors that determine how well an epoxy floor coating will perform under harsh conditions β and most products on the market fail in one or more of these categories.
What won't work: So-called "high solids" epoxies, water-based products, and hybrid epoxies such as cycloaliphatic epoxies have no chance at surviving long-term in commercial kitchen environments. They lack the hardness, adhesion, and chemical resistance needed for daily hot oil exposure and caustic washdowns.
Our system rates best in all four categories. The chemically cross-linked finish achieves a Shore-D hardness rating well above construction hard hats, combined with adhesion up to 725 PSI, impact resistance up to 160 ft/lbs, and the lowest abrasion loss in the industry. This is the most durable epoxy system available for food service environments.
Lower total cost of ownership: Although the initial investment may be slightly higher, this coating lasts five times longer than standard epoxies β eliminating the expense of redoing your floor every couple of years, critical downtime, and the unhappy health inspector seeing a shabby floor with exposed concrete.
Urethane Cement Mortar Slurry β Code Compliant Solution
Some building and health departments require seamless flooring with a minimum 1/8" thickness. For these code-compliant applications, our industrial-grade Urethane Cement Mortar Slurry is the solution. It can be applied from 1/8" to 1/4" thick using a gauge rake, and meets all building and health department requirements nationwide.
This system transforms even severely damaged floors into fully compliant surfaces. Cracked, pitted, and deteriorated concrete that would otherwise require costly tear-out and replacement is restored to a seamless, monolithic surface that health departments approve on sight. Once cured, the strength is extraordinary β you can drive a tank on it without damage.
We recommend full broadcasting with sand or heavy aluminum oxide to provide a textured, non-slip finish. Then topcoat with either our commercial-grade two-part epoxy or our chemical and acid-resistant Novolac topcoat, in any color desired for branding or zone identification.
Health department compliance: This system creates the seamless, thickness-compliant flooring required by strict health codes β transforming even severely damaged floors into surfaces that become health department favorites.
Seamless Cove Base System
We strongly recommend installing a cove base around the perimeter walls in every commercial kitchen project. A cove base creates a seamless, radiused transition from the floor to the wall β eliminating the 90Β° wall-floor junction where bacteria, grease, food particles, and moisture accumulate and are impossible to fully sanitize.
The epoxy runs across the floor and right up the cove base to form a continuous waterproof surface. During washdowns, water and cleaning chemicals flow smoothly along the curve instead of pooling in a hard corner. Health inspectors love it when they see a proper cove base forming a sanitary joint at the floor-wall junction.
Cove Base Kit available in Related Products β comes complete with a 4" cove tool for easy installation. Creates the sanitary radiused joint that health departments require.
Coat Over Tile, Wood & Existing Surfaces
Ripping out your existing kitchen floor isn't always necessary β or practical. Our Bonding Primer option allows you to coat directly over existing epoxy, paint, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, quarry tile, and even wood floors. This dramatically reduces downtime, labor costs, and the disruption of a full tear-out.
The bonding primer ensures permanent adhesion between dissimilar surfaces and our epoxy topcoat. Simply clean the existing surface, apply the bonding primer, let it dry overnight, and apply the epoxy system as normal.
Free swap: Select the Bonding Primer option and we'll swap out the standard primer at no additional cost. See the Must-Read tab on the product page for instructions on removing oil and grease stains before priming.
Non-Slip & Flexible Coating Options
Slip-and-fall prevention is critical in commercial kitchen environments. Our heavy-duty non-slip additive mixes directly into the epoxy or can be broadcast into the squeegeed epoxy and back-rolled for a textured, slip-resistant surface β even when wet with grease, oil, or washdown water. We recommend 3 units per 400 sq ft for optimal coverage.
Need a flexible coating? ArmorTrak is a rubber-granulated epoxy that provides up to 20% flexibility for floors with deflection, along with a softer, rubbery feel underfoot β reducing fatigue for kitchen staff on their feet all day.
Wet Environments & Large Floor Projects
