Can you apply epoxy to a wet concrete floor?

Yes — but only with an epoxy formulated for it. Standard epoxies need a bone-dry slab and will peel or blister if moisture is present. Our Wet Floor Epoxy uses a moisture-tolerant resin chemistry that reacts with water instead of being blocked by it, so it bonds to damp or wet concrete and will even cure while submerged in standing water and it's not water based. Other water tolerant products are water based and not durable at all.
That means no 48–72 hour dry-out period and no waiting for a production shutdown that never comes.

Why does epoxy peel and fail in wet facilities?

Because a standard epoxy coating was applied to a slab that was damp, or it's constantly covered with water after curing will result in a failure 100% of the time. Conventional epoxy treats water as a contaminant — moisture at the bond line prevents adhesion, and vapor pushing up through the concrete later lifts the coating from underneath. The result is peeling, blistering and delamination within weeks or months, followed by a costly recoat cycle.
Water-based epoxies are not the answer either. Those are retail-grade products that cannot survive production environments. A true wet-floor system is a solids industrial epoxy engineered to bond and cure in moisture.
How do you make an epoxy floor non-slip when it's wet?

There are several way but most genrally you broadcast aggregate into the epoxy while it's still wet, then seal it with an optional clear topcoat once cured. The aggregate creates a textured surface and gives boots and tires something to bite into even under standing water, detergent film or fat.
You control how aggressive the texture is by how much aggregate and the type of aggregae you use. For wash bays, kill floors and self-service car wash areas we recommend a heavy broadcast; for packaging and dry-side areas a lighter texture keeps the floor easier to squeegee clean.
Do we have to shut down production to recoat the floor?

Not for a dry-out period, which is what makes a standard recoat impossible for most plants. With Wet Floor Epoxy you clean the surface of grease, oil and loose debris, and apply directly to the damp floor with standard rollers — the slab does not need to be dry. Most facilities coat in sections between shifts or over a weekend rather than taking the line down for days.
