Aluminum Epoxy Foam Roof Coating
Industrial-grade epoxy that protects spray polyurethane foam roofs from the UV that destroys them. Not a retail aluminum-fibered coating — a true epoxy that won't damage, delaminate or crack the foam. One coat, no primer, 12-year recoat cycle.

A foam roof coating is the protective top layer on a spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roof. The foam does the insulating and the leak-stopping; the coating keeps sunlight off it, because unprotected polyurethane foam breaks down under UV in a matter of months. ArmorGarage Aluminum Epoxy Foam Roof Coating is a solvent-free industrial epoxy that bonds to any foam roof, reflects heat with a satin aluminum finish, goes on in one coat at 300–400 sq ft per gallon, and runs about 12 years between recoats.
Why Does a Foam Roof Need a Coating?
Polyurethane foam is a superb insulator and a superb leak stopper, with one critical weakness: UV. Sunlight chalks and erodes bare foam fast, and once the surface goes, water gets into the cells and the expensive part of the roof — the foam itself — has to be re-sprayed. The coating is what stands between your foam and that bill.
What doesn't work: cheap retail water-based or aluminum-fibered coatings wear off quickly and can attack the foam. Standard industrial roof coatings cost a lot more, and their solvents can damage the foam underneath. Neither was made for this job.
Aluminum Epoxy Foam Roof Coating solves both problems. It's a true industrial epoxy — the UV protection and durability of the industrial product — with no solvents that can harm polyurethane. It cures fast, rolls on easily, and lasts about 12 years before it wants a recoat.
How Do You Apply It?
Clean the roof, stir the can, and roll, brush or spray it on at 300–400 sq ft per gallon. One coat is normally all it takes, with no primer. It cures in one to two hours, finishes a heat-reflecting satin aluminum, and takes on the texture of the foam — smooth or rough, whatever the roof already is. No special equipment and no experience required.
Standing water: any low spot that holds water more than 48 hours after rain should be repaired before coating. Standing water works on any coating over time; fix the low spot, don't coat over it.
Recoating is simple: roughly every 12 years, clean the roof and apply another coat. It bonds to the original automatically — unlike silicone, which needs special adhesion prep and will only take more silicone.

Foam Roof Questions We Get Every Week
What is the best coating for a spray foam roof?
+−
One that protects the foam from UV without attacking it. That rules out solvent-based industrial coatings (the solvents can eat polyurethane) and cheap retail aluminum-fibered coatings (they wear off in a season or two). Our Aluminum Epoxy Foam Roof Coating is a solvent-free industrial epoxy made for exactly this: bonds to all foam roof types, reflects heat, one coat with no primer, and about 12 years between recoats.
How often does a foam roof need to be recoated?
+−
With this coating, about every 12 years. Many acrylic and elastomeric foam-roof coatings need redoing in 5 to 10. When it's time, you clean the roof and apply one more coat — it bonds to the previous one, so there's no stripping and the foam is never exposed.
Can you put silicone on a foam roof?
+−
You can, and it's widely done, but silicone is soft, picks up dirt, is hard to walk on without damage, and once it's on the roof only silicone will ever stick to it again. The epoxy is harder, cleaner and recoats with itself without special prep. For a roof you'll maintain for decades, we think that's the better long-term choice.
How much foam roof coating do I need?
+−
Divide the roof area by 300 for a rough-textured foam or by 400 for a smooth one, and that's the gallons for a single coat. A 2,000 sq ft rough foam roof needs about 7 gallons. Buy a gallon or two extra for parapets, penetrations and the inevitable spots that drink more. We'll check your number if you send us the square footage.
What temperature can I apply it in?
+−
Anywhere from 20°F to 140°F surface temperature — a much wider window than water-based coatings, which can't be applied near freezing or in extreme heat. It cures in one to two hours. Once cured it's rated for service from −40°F to 250°F.
Does it need a primer?
+−
No. On a clean foam roof — or over a sound previous coat of this product — it goes on direct. The exception is a roof with loose or failing coating on it; that has to come off before anything will bond, whichever product you use.
Will it lower the building temperature?
+−
Yes. The satin aluminum finish reflects solar heat instead of absorbing it, which keeps the foam cooler (foam lasts longer cool) and lowers the load on the air conditioning. Combined with the foam's own insulation, a coated SPF roof is one of the most energy-efficient roofs you can own.
