ArmorGarage Epoxy Floor Case Studies

Real floors, real abuse, real proof — 16 and 17-year-old installations that still outperform the competition's brand-new floors

Cutting Through the Noise

There's a lot of noise in the marketplace and it can be very confusing when trying to purchase an epoxy floor coating for your home or business — claims like "polyaspartic or polyurea are 10X stronger than epoxy." First of all, polyaspartic and polyurea are epoxies. Second, they're stronger than which type of epoxy?

There are many different types of epoxies — we know, we've made and installed them all. We know what real epoxy is, what works, and what doesn't.

So when you read "10X stronger," ask yourself: 10X stronger than water-based epoxy? 10X stronger than big box store epoxy or fake 100% solids epoxy? If so, then maybe. But compared to ArmorGarage military-grade solids epoxies? Not a chance. Most of those "10X" and "one day" epoxies wear off before you know it — and good luck trying to get your floor redone under guarantee.

⚠️ Beware of Fake 100% Solids Epoxies: They are usually imported or made with lower-grade raw materials and do not have 100% solids in both weight and volume. If you read the spec sheet and don't see 100% in weight and volume, it's not truly 100% solids. Very few, if any, are military-grade solids like ArmorGarage epoxy. All solids are not equal!

Trying to save a few dollars is never a good idea when doing a garage floor with epoxy. It always winds up costing you double or triple in the end. We see it happen over and over again.

ArmorGarage vs. Big Box Store Epoxy — 10+ Years Later

This is a great comparison from a luxury high-rise building where owners can coat their parking spots with any epoxy they choose, as long as it's medium or light gray. Two owners did their floors a couple of weeks apart — one used big box store epoxy (left), and the other used the Armor Chip Epoxy Kit with the standard heavy-duty topcoat (right).

After about a year, the floor on the left started looking shabby. At the time of this photo, both floors were over 10 years old.

The Happy Ending: The owner on the left had to do a full diamond grind and start over. The owner on the right called us, upgraded to the military-grade topcoat, gave the floor a light sanding with 100 grit, and when he rolled on the new topcoat — his floor looked like the day he installed it!

ArmorGarage has a long and proven track record of being the best looking and most durable garage floor epoxy coating. We put the proof right out there — see our case studies below of 16 and 17-year-old floors. Plus we have fast free shipping, the most informative epoxy flooring website, and great customer service.

Case Study: Larsa Pippen's Garage Floor Nightmare — and Rescue

We get calls every day from customers who went to a big box store or went online and bought what they thought was a heavy-duty product with a good warranty, or what they thought was a good deal — without doing any research.

Larsa Pippen found out the hard way. When she purchased her new home, she had her garage done by a "garage floor expert" — and had it turn into a nightmare in a little over a year. The professionally installed epoxy wore right down to the slab and was badly stained.

The Transformation — Armor Granite with Military-Grade Topcoat

She contacted us and we connected her with a good local installer who did a full diamond grind to remove the failed epoxy. We sold her our Armor Granite Garage Epoxy Kit in Pattern 7 with a primer and the military-grade topcoat. Now she has a gorgeous floor she won't have to worry about for the next 15–20 years — and when it's time, all that's needed is a fresh topcoat to bring it right back.

Video: Armor Chip vs. Heavy-Duty Off-the-Shelf Epoxy

Here's one video that we think says it all. We try our best to help you avoid what happened to Larsa. Keep in mind when you watch the video below that the non-ArmorGarage part has no vehicle traffic on it!

Video: Armor Chip 16-Year Update — Still Looks New

This is a video update on an Armor Chip Garage Epoxy Floor installed 16 years ago to prove Armor Chip is as good as we say it is. The original video is still on our YouTube channel for comparison. You won't find proof of old-age floors from the competition!

After 16 years with several vehicles — including a very heavy SUV twisting and turning in and out of their parking spots — the floor still looks new. This floor has another 10 years in it before a refresher topcoat will be needed. You simply are not going to get this type of performance with any other epoxy type or brand.

Case Study: 17 Years of Extreme Warehouse Abuse

When you first look at these images, you're going to say "OMG, that floor looks absolutely terrible." We agree with you — and couldn't be prouder of it!

This floor has been abused from the day it was put down 17+ years ago by nonstop forklift traffic, pallet jack traffic, rolling ladders, hand trucks, and dollies with an average of 3,000 people a day for 12 hours a day, 365 days a year — never being cleaned or maintained — and employees dragging wooden pallets across the floor all day by hand to boot.

Perspective: It's the equivalent of running your car 100,000 miles a year for 17 years with no maintenance. Any other coating would have been vaporized off the floor back to bare concrete in under a year.

So rolling your car, SUV, riding mower, boat trailer, tool chests, floor jacks, or large power tools in and out of your garage is child's play for our garage floor coatings.

The Takeaway: This floor should have been re-topcoated several years ago when the clear coat started to wear off, but they're so busy they just don't have the time — and they think the floor is fine! Understandable, considering every other product they used never lasted more than 6 months. When we say ArmorGarage floors are the most durable, we mean it.

Our epoxy floors are as tough as they are beautiful.
