Outdoor Industrial Metal Epoxy Coating for Extreme Environments

ArmorGarage Outdoor Industrial Metal Epoxy Coating is a two-layer, high-performance, surface-tolerant coating system designed to last in extreme duty applications. It’s built for outdoor metal equipment and infrastructure exposed to harsh weather, abrasion, impacts, caustic chemicals, and severe operating conditions.

Fast Cure • High Durability • Easy Application

This is a self-priming two-layer system that can cover metal surfaces with rust or older coatings that are chipping or flaking. Simply remove loose rust/paint, apply the base coat, allow to dry, then apply the protective topcoat for a rock-hard, high-gloss tile-like finish.

Key Advantages

  • Surface tolerant: adheres to metal in poor condition after removing loose material
  • Time saver: reduces repeated repainting cycles and downtime
  • Durable finish: resists abrasion, impacts, and harsh exposures
  • Flexible application: brush, roll, or spray

Where To Use

Designed for harsh industrial environments and outdoor infrastructure, including:

  • Oil rigs, refineries, chemical plants
  • Mining equipment & mining infrastructure
  • Wastewater plants, tank farms, power plants
  • Saltwater/coastal installations
  • Equipment, piping, tanks, ladders, catwalks, pumps, cooling towers, structural steel

Why It’s Better

Feature ArmorGarage Outdoor Metal Epoxy (2-Layer) Typical 1-Part Metal Paint / Enamel Common “Rust” Coatings
System Build True 2-layer system for durability Single coat (often requires frequent refresh) Single coat (shorter lifecycle in harsh exposure)
Chemical Resistance Designed for caustic/industrial exposure Limited (softens, stains, or degrades) Limited–moderate (varies; often not for severe chemical exposure)
Abrasion & Impact Resistance Engineered for abuse and high wear Moderate to low (chips, scuffs, wears through) Moderate (often chips under heavy abuse)
Outdoor Weather Durability Built for harsh weather and industrial use Fades/chalks; maintenance cycles are common Can degrade faster with UV/salt/chemicals
Total Cost of Ownership Lower long-term (fewer recoats and shutdowns) Higher long-term (more frequent repainting) Higher long-term (repairs + recoats)

Note: Performance depends on prep, substrate condition, and exposure severity. Always remove loose rust/paint and follow application guidance.

How To Apply

Surface Prep
  • Remove all loose flaking rust and loose/coating debris.
  • Clean oils/grease/contaminants and allow the surface to dry as recommended.
  • Mask off areas that should not be coated.
Base Coat
  • Apply base coat by roller/brush/spray for full, even coverage.
  • Allow to dry (typical window: 1–2 hours, depending on conditions).
Protective Topcoat
  • Apply the topcoat for a hard, high-gloss protective finish.
  • Allow proper cure time before returning equipment/areas to service.
Application Tips
  • Apply within the recommended temperature range: 50–120°F.
  • Plan work to minimize dust and contaminants during cure.
  • For bulk projects, request a quote for optimized packaging and pricing.

FAQ

Does it work on rusted or poorly coated metal?

Yes—this system is designed for surface-tolerant applications. Remove loose, flaky rust/paint, then apply the base coat followed by the topcoat.

Remove any loose rust, paint and other contamanents. Surface must be dry with no rain forcasted for 12 hrs. Brush or roll on at 250 sf/gal rate. Spray with commercial grade sprayer, thinning maybe required with Xylene at 4 ounces per gallon mixed epoxy. Mix base coat Part A & Part B per ratio listed on label, be sure to accurately measure each part for proper curing. Mix with jiffy type mixer in a drill at medium speed for 2 minutes. Let sit for about 15 minutes and mix again for another minute to ensure uniform color dispersion. Apply in temperature range of 50-120 degrees. Cures in about 5- 8 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Can be applied  thicker on sharp edges or corners to protect against injuries.

Once base coat has cured mix Topcoat Part A & B per label listed ratio. Apply at 250-300 Sq ft/gal. Allow to dry overnight. Coating should be rock hard and leave no fingerprints when cured.
