What Is Metallic Epoxy Flooring

What Is Metallic Epoxy Flooring?

A multi-layer epoxy resin system that creates a three-dimensional, marble-like appearance using metallic pigments — each floor is completely one of a kind.

3-Layer System • One-of-a-Kind Finish • Military Grade Topcoat

Metallic epoxy flooring is a multi-layer epoxy resin flooring system designed to create a three-dimensional, marble-like appearance using metallic pigment powders suspended in a clear epoxy layer over a dark base coat. The system is sealed with a protective topcoat selected to preserve gloss, color depth, and long-term wear resistance.

ArmorGarage is a manufacturer of epoxy flooring systems engineered as multi-layer coatings with specific formulations, thicknesses, and performance specifications designed to keep your one-of-a-kind metallic floor finish looking bright and new as long as possible.

How the ArmorGarage Metallic System Is Built

1

Penetrating Epoxy Primer

A modified 100% solids epoxy formulated at reduced viscosity so it deeply soaks into properly prepared concrete, mechanically locking into the slab for long-term adhesion. Applied in black to provide rich background highlights (Light Gray is used for lighter metallic colors).

2

Clear High-Build Metallic Epoxy

A clear high-build epoxy designed for the addition of metallic pigments. This is what makes these floors so special. While applying, swirl the epoxy however you want with the supplied squeegee or roller. Optionally spray denatured alcohol on the wet epoxy — the metallic pigments will react, creating random organic patterns. You can also combine two pigment colors by mixing separate batches and swirling them together, or add Spray-On Metallic Accents for highlight touches.

3

Military Grade Protective Topcoat

Our best-in-class military topcoat provides the utmost protection. It’s tough as nails and shields the metallic epoxy from abrasion, impacts, and spills. It’s also the sacrificial layer — if you ever manage to wear it down, simply roll on a fresh coat and your floor comes right back to new.

Every floor is one of a kind. The combination of swirl technique, pigment colors, alcohol effects, and spray-on accents means no two metallic epoxy floors are ever identical.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes metallic epoxy flooring different from other epoxy floors?

The ArmorGarage metallic epoxy floor system is a 3-layer, extra-thick epoxy system that combines commercial-grade durability with a super high-end, one-of-a-kind marble-like appearance. Each floor is unique based on the pigments, swirl technique, and accent highlights used during installation.

Is metallic epoxy flooring suitable for vehicles and heavy equipment?

Yes. Metallic epoxy flooring offers excellent durability for vehicles, equipment, and foot traffic when properly applied. While it is not intended for industrial production floors, it performs exceptionally well in garages, showrooms, dealerships, and high-visibility commercial spaces where appearance and durability are both important.

How long does metallic epoxy flooring last?

With proper surface preparation and application, metallic epoxy flooring can last 10–15 years on average. It’s a very robust 3-layer epoxy system built to last, and the topcoat can be refreshed without redoing the entire floor.

Why do epoxy floors fail in commercial environments?

Most epoxy floor failures occur because the coating system was not designed for the workload applied to it. Common causes include using residential-grade epoxy in commercial settings, insufficient surface preparation, and selecting topcoats with inadequate abrasion resistance. The ArmorGarage Metallic epoxy system can handle just about any type of residential or commercial floor traffic with ease.

Can metallic epoxy flooring be installed in residential garages?

Yes. Metallic epoxy flooring is often used in residential garages, even those that function as workshops or house heavy, oversized vehicles.

What surface preparation is required?

Metallic epoxy flooring requires properly prepared concrete with clean, open pores to allow the primer to penetrate and bond for long-term adhesion. This typically involves mechanical grinding or acid etching, along with repairing cracks or surface defects. Proper crack and divot repair is critical — the super-high-gloss finish will highlight any imperfections.

Is metallic epoxy flooring resistant to vehicle fluids and road salt?

Yes. ArmorGarage Metallic epoxy flooring systems are designed to resist common automotive fluids, oils, cleaners, and many industrial chemicals. Winter road slush and salt can quickly destroy other floor finishes — your metallic epoxy floor will be impervious to it. In fact, you can store road salt on an ArmorGarage metallic floor.
